  Reformation - Vessel Series
    Reformation - Vessel Series
    1996, log, steel, 5'h 5'w 13'l
The sculpture is comprised of two basic elements, a 2,000 pound log and a steel boat hull and keel. When it was first placed on the landscape the public immediately began to carve into and mark the surface. Through the natural process of decay, the log will rot and fall away, revealing more and more of the boat/vessel form. Collaborating with its audience and the forces of nature this sculpture will eventually complete its own life cycle and in doing so provide nutrients for the next generation.
